Privacy Policy for BingeRated
Last updated: August 16, 2026
Overview
BingeRated displays IMDb ratings and related title metadata on Netflix. It does not require an account and does not collect names, email addresses, Netflix credentials, or browsing activity outside Netflix.
Data Collection
What We Collect
When BingeRated is enabled on Netflix, the following data is sent to the BingeRated API:
- Movie/TV Show Titles - The titles of content displayed on Netflix pages
- Netflix Content IDs - Public content identifiers used to distinguish titles and cache results
- Title-selection signals - When you click a Netflix title, a signal is sent to calculate the aggregate "Popular!" badge
Like any web service, the API receives the requesting IP address. For title-selection signals, the server converts the IP address into a truncated one-way hash so the same network counts only once per title. The raw IP address is not saved by BingeRated. The hash is not intended to identify a person, but it can associate repeat signals from the same network.
What We Do NOT Collect
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Netflix account information or credentials
- The video you actually play or how long you watch it
- Browsing history outside of Netflix
- Any personally identifiable information
How Data Is Used
- Titles are sent to our API server to look up IMDB ratings from the OMDb API
- Netflix IDs are used solely for caching purposes to avoid duplicate requests
- Title-selection counts are used only to surface the aggregate "Popular!" badge
- Data is not sold, used for advertising, or used to build personal recommendations
Data Storage
- Local storage: The extension caches ratings locally in your browser to reduce API calls
- Server-side: The API stores title-to-rating mappings, rating history, and correction evidence so matching and trend data remain accurate
- Title selections: Hashed records are retained to prevent duplicate counts and are not combined with account data because BingeRated has no user accounts
Third-Party Services
BingeRated uses:
- OMDb, IMDb, TMDB, and Wikipedia data to resolve and verify title metadata
Requests to those services are made by the BingeRated server rather than directly from your Netflix account.
Data Security
- All communication with the API uses HTTPS encryption
- API requests are authenticated and rate limited to prevent abuse
Your Rights
- You can disable BingeRated at any time to stop future requests
- Clearing your browser data will remove all locally cached ratings
- The extension does not create any accounts or require registration
